Home made ruins

Hi all,
Here are a few pictures of some ruins I made with foam core sheets and a few lolly sticks. All are suitable for 28 mm or 15 mm battle terrain layouts such as Mordheim, Necromunda or Frostgrave.

This is the beginnings of a crude shelter which evolved out of a few parts of upright walls. The upright wooden supports were put in first and then allowed to dry firmly. The lolly cross beams were then added.

I originally had the front roof beam sticking out further to the right, but it looked too out of shape, so I changed it to this.

The rear view, with dirt area around the edges. I had originally planned to cover the complete roof area with wood but thought that the crude look worked better.

The tent fabric is made using a tissue, that had been pre-cut to size, dipped in a solution of 50% water and 50% PVA glue, mixed on a paper plate. Drape over the surface and add any folds. Leave to dry before adding weathering paints.

The front entrance. The stonework was added with acrylic paints (front building) or felt tip markers (rear). A pale yellow base coat, followed by a darker coat of brown mixed in.

Added grime and dirt.

A side view where the woodpile is starting to be stacked.

More ruins with felt tip floor markings.

The flagstones were laid on the inner surface. Outer and inner walls of different stone types. The rough stone floor was easy to add with felt tips.
I added a couple of masonry chunks.

Plus some botanical items.

The raw foam board stuck on a card base, ready for decorating. Possibly a fire pit / table dining area or a minor lookout point.

I have added a bit of colour.

I hope you like them and hope it will get you adding to your terrain.

Ivor
