THoughts On - Obsidian Notes for RPG's and Wargaming

 Hi  Everyone,

Today's topic is about a free PC, Mobile and probably LINUX app called "Obsidian". You may have seen it on YouTube before, as it has been out for a while. It is used for taking notes on both mobile devices and PCs. It has a large range of core functions and community add-ins (some paid for). All of your notes are stored on your own device in a folder called a vault, in plain text Markdown format. All text editors should be able to read the .md format, so if Obsidian goes kaput, you still have all of your data in a readable format on your drive.

Inside of your text, you can link notes together with [[note name 1]],  [[Author List]], [Daily notes]] etc. Just press on the highlighted entry to go to that note. Headings, highlights, bullet points, strike-through, auto-numbered lists and bold italic are all easy to implement as you type. graphics are available. The latest thing to come online is databases.

There are plenty of YouTube tutorials. Mike of "Sly Flourish" Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master" used Obsidian for his weekly tips and note broadcasts. Have a look.

You can use them for world-building notes, Wargame Club scores, and games individuals play. GM information amended on the fly. Recording inspiration when you are on the move. Recording troop movements, Great expansion potential. Mind mapping. I am just a novice at it.

Regards,

Ivor Cogdell
