The Woods And Rangers of Shadows Deep

Hi All,
I have read reviews of "The Woods", a fantasy skirmish game by Oakbound Studio and "Rangers of Shadows Deep" by Joe McCollough in Miniature Wargamer Magazine. If you and your friends have played it, what do you think of it? Is it quicker / faster / better  than what you were expecting?  Let me know, please drop a link to your blog or website in the comments below.

Thanks,

WIP- Painting 28 mm Fantasy Miniatures Part 2

Hi all,
Here is how I have been progressing with my fantasy miniature painting. Some I have added minor details on, others are more or less complete. I might add a wash to them later on.

Marksman, Rogue or wizard, Elven Archer, Human Archer.

Elf Ranger, Lady, Amazon, Ork

Elf Bowman, Angry Ork Wizard, Sword Dancer

Blurry Elf, Cannoneer, Warrior, Bard.

A bit of terrain to top it off. A bit of interesting recycling - odd shaped junk to terrain, - wash, a bit of tac to level up the base, with bits of sprue and other bits stuck on, prime, paint to taste, sorted.

"Incoming, duck !"

Feel free to leave comments or suggestions in the box below.

Thoughts On - The First Men - Part two

Hi all,
Here is my second part of my First Men review.

Apart from not getting more shots of them on the moon in general, they did not mention the problem they had with the circuit breaker after they had touched down on the moon and done their moonwalk.

Click on the link for more details. LINK.

Sadly, I cannot find my notes for the rest of this section.

All in all, an interesting film, but it did leave blanks along the way.

Hopefully it will not be too long before we see more boots on the moon, not just robot craft, although they are welcome too.

On a brighter note, NASA and the government are finally heading in the right direction again. Click on the links below.

Terrain - Making a simple or extensive water feature

Hi all,
I have just made a simple water feature, suitable to give your adventurers and assorted critters lurking around, somewhere to drink, or possibly fight over, the winner can wash off the blood.

Parts list
One or more plastic cards (plain not old credit cards, unless you cover up the lettering first. You can use other basing material if you wanted to cover a larger area, e.g. Foam core.
Clear Nail varnish.
Assorted acrylic or oil paints.
Extruded Foam, for making boulders or rocks.
Flock material, ( A mix of colours). Optional.

1. Take a plastic card, prime on one side, add a layer of grey or other suitable colour, add a suitable rock shaped from foam etc.

2. Add a  smaller rubble pile to form a depression in the ground next to the boulder, use tac or milliput to shape the surrounding area, providing a gentle slope.Bits of card, cut to shape, provide slabs of rocks. Paint the depression with a mid green or orange around the water source.

3. Once you are happy with the paint scheme, pour into the depression nail varnish or other clear sealant. Allow it to overflow the rocks in a natural way. You may have to guide it between the rocks, allowing it to fade at the edge. Allow to dry hard.

Extra tiles for effect.

Close up of water area.

 4. With this picture, I thought it was complete, then I realised that there was something missing, the interaction of the water flowing through the rocks. So, I painted the water white where it was flowing downhill, and splashing in the water below, plus doing a dry brush a bit lower down the flow to indicate remaining froth left over.

(Pool on the left, flowing to the right).

I have added a clump of flock and foliage lower down.

I hope that gives you some ideas.

Regards,

Ivor Cogdell

Notice Board 1 Update 3

Hi all,
Just a quick note. I am slowly progressing with my latest entry, a three way scrap in Mordheim. Thanks to Richard for hosting the event and Martin and Richard for pitting their Mordheim fellows against my scruffians and others. Hopefully, it should not be too long before posting. We will be using new terrain for the games. Steve will be joining us in later games.
I have also been painting some more peasantry for Mordheim to chew on, along with how to do a small water feature, now posted.

Update 25th March - Another battle has taken place, so I have more work to do.

Update 30th March - Another battle has taken place, I am running behind.

Update 20th April - Another battle has taken place, I am running way behind.

Update 26th April - I have added the pictures to my first edit, but I need to add the text for it, apologies. Another distraction, I have just bought season 1 of  Star Trek Discovery and rationing my way through that good stuff.
