Thoughts On - Merry Christmas, Free Stuff and Climate Change. (Updated 2020.11.19)

Merry Christmas

Hey everybody,
I would just like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and New Year. May you and yours be safe. I hope the world will have less tension in it. The world leaders need to stop ignoring climate change, (YES, they Do believe it, They Just Don't Care so long as THEY are still in power), if they want to prove us wrong, let us see action, not words. But until then we must each do what we can to fight the problem. Even if it is just turning lights off while we are watching tv, it is something you can do. Remember to reuse plastic bags and recycle where possible.

19 November 2020 Update - Things are looking a bit brighter on the Climate Change front - Firstly, Joe Byden has become President Elect of the USA and has stated that he will rejoin the Paris Climate Change Accord. Secondly - "The UK is set to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030" - Financial Times.

I would have preferred 2025 myself, but at lease its a start. Let's see what else they come up with in the 2021 G7 summit.

 Free stuff

I have been playing about with the space RPG, Stars Without Number by Sine Nomine Publishing (free and Delux versions) and mixing it with the 5 Parsecs rules and the supplement "Every Star an opportunity" by Nordic Weasel Games. I have been throwing together a Space Sector. It is also compatible with Gurps space, Traveller, etc. Here is a look at what I have created so far.

As a Christmas Pressie from me to you, you can use it for personal use only, providing you give me credit. Please let me know if you find it useful.

Stars Without Number - Sector: 043, 565, 285 - "Beowulf".
2019.12.26-8h
Key  PG = Planetary Government.TF = Terraforming. C OS = Civilian Orbital Station, D OS = Derelict OS. M OS=Military OS.

caps. Venues -  notably "The Ice Paradise" and "The Undersea World"pleasure parks. It has a low population. The main
continent is Splatan, the smaller continent is Bruffis. It has floating cities moored to undersea peaks, sea fish farms, undersea
mining operations. It hosts a colony of Dolphins, who do make excellent space pilots.
The government is a bureaucratic form of communism. It has a large Intelligence gathering network, it seeks to exert control
with blackmail, bribery, truth drugs, etc. to extract secrets and future plans of visiting dignitaries and military personnel.

The Tuprini live in coastal communities so that they can put out to sea when the Mechs arrive to settle their squabbles, then
scavenge parts of them to sell.  There is no insignia on the mechs, all pilots/bodies are picked up unless they are taken by a
Downtrodden Snatch Squad. They are building their own war fleet in secret.

burden.
Boulder Mining Inc. is the main driver of the economy. (Side Effect - Working down the mine dulls the senses, due to
hazardous gasses. Bringing in mining machinery would cause economic chaos). It has a monopoly on Faugemite

patients are
offset by the higher gravity.

There are good hospitals running organ banks, retirement is at 60, but it has mandatory euthanasia (going into the organ
banks)  for over 70's, with exceptions for high intelligence and the members of the Ruling Council. It is ripe for smuggling

Atmosphere freezes out at the far end of Elliptical orbit
People adapted to a partially frozen climate, by using polar bear genes - with molting fur and partial hibernation.
Unfortunately, this brings reduced intelligence and increased aggression. One section of the population could not be
genetically engineered. More resources have to be used to protect them from the cold, automated food drops, very
deep caverns - "The Street", "The Cabin", "The Snug", "The Igloo", "The City","Fortress of Solitude", "Zebra",

Circle Battle Group news part 2 - Updated 2020.04.10.

Circle Battlegroup Club News,  part two.

Hi there,
We have just had confirmation that the planned Bar in the other room will go ahead, for at least 6 months, which is great news for us gang at the club. The Bar will be open on the weekends as well, hopefully with some live entertainment. There will be a membership scheme, no firm info as yet on an opening date, or what age range, but closing time could be 11.00. More to come as I get it.

Here are a few snaps from tonight's games.

A Battle Mech scrap in progress, trying out the rules for an upcoming demo game
that they are putting on. Most of the terrain on show here is homemade.
Pictures of the demo games and other goodies coming soon.
Meeples hiding somewhere on here, I think.
Currently the club and pretty much everything else is out of action due to the Covid -19 virus. Once things are back to normal I will report on our battles.

Regards all,

Ivor Cogdell

Circle Battle Group Club doings (Updated 2019.12.29),

Hi all,
Here is just a bit of the Circle Battle Group club goings-on. Assorted Noble Romans and peasantry Celts (myself included) have been appearing in our role-playing of Roman Chuthulu, where we carelessly let an "Old One" get loose (some of us paid the ultimate price) and in our latest adventure, we are now in19th /15th-century Chuthulu on our table for the last few weeks.

In case you are wondering, usually, a game will last six weeks, but this was extended for an extra two weeks. There are sneaky Dungeons and Dragons of some description on another table, Battle Mechs are in another section and a card game on the fourth. I quite fancy trying a ride on a Battle Mech, I must dig out my Demo rules.

Full marks to all of our GM's for coming up with all of the plots and nastiness our characters go through, plus all of the painting and prepping that involves.

There are signs of the Club Bar reopening in one of the other rooms and work seems to be going on in there, good, and other rumors of us being closed down by the council, very bad. The council has already sacked the Event Coordinator who got bookings for the other events room. This venue has quite a few clubs and societies that use it during the week, a bowling green and cricket pitch attached.

There are committee meetings going on, but the one hand does not seem to know what the other is doing. This club has had to move venues once before due to the council. We hope to know a bit more by next week. Currently, our spies are out looking for a new venue just in case.

Keep rolling them there dice.

Terminator number whatever - Updated 2019.12.04

Hi all,
I've just found out I have missed the new Terminator movie, I did not even know that the release date was close. Apparently, it was an ignore the last two Terminator films and pretend this is number three. Just like Star Trek and Spidey. I did not bother with the new set of Spidey. I'm sure that the writers and directors like nothing better than messing around with our minds......
Speaking of the new Star Trek timeline films, I hear that number 4 has been canceled. Boo. Hiss. On the brighter side, I see that the venerable Patrick Stewart is coming back as Jean Luke Picard to do some goodies though. Yaaay.

So, a quick review of the advertisers involved - 0 / 10.

Roll on the latest Star Wars, fingers crossed we don't get a "pup".

Regards all,

Ivor Cogdell

Little stuff

 Just little stuff going on.

Hey all,
Here are a few pics of the bits and bobs I have been gluing and waving a paintbrush at, apart of all of my other hobbies that get in the way, not to mention real life. They are just a few bits of scatter terrain to add to the look of my small gaming table.

Here is the maker's info.
This is what it can look like, better if you spend more time on it.
This is a small section of a thin MDF wall, there are larger pieces in the set (unpainted). The removable slot in the middle is for a 90-degree angle to be slotted in. The size of that section is about two inches in length.
A spring or water fountain feature. Complete with painted rock stones. (It contains one base section, 4 height sections to make 2 layers and a top section). The top had been distressed to simulate wear and extra cracks. Gold and silver dots were added on the bottom for coin offerings. Bits of plaster for rocks. After the nail varnish (i had no bespoke water product) had dried, I painted the rocks sticking above the water grey. I may put some green mold on it later.

All three together for a sense of scale.

Some 10 mm-ish Dwarf Warriors, partially painted.

"Get stuck in, Lads and Lasses!".

I will put 1p bases on them at a later date, for better stability. Some of the bases
needed sanding down and a bit of "flashing" was showing, but that was very easily fixed.

Regards all,

Ivor Cogdell

P.S. I have now painted the Dwarf bases green.
